Areas of expertise

Advanced surgery for the kidney and upper urinary tract

Robotic Kidney Cancer Surgery

Robotic partial and radical nephrectomy for kidney tumours, using the da Vinci platform for precision and control.

Nephron-Sparing Surgery

Preserving as much healthy, functioning kidney as possible whenever it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Upper-Tract Cancer Surgery

Robotic nephroureterectomy for cancer of the upper urinary tract — the renal pelvis and ureter.

Complex & Second Opinions

Expertise in the retroperitoneal approach for complex cases, recurrent disease and the “hostile abdomen”.

The technology

The da Vinci robotic system

Robotic surgery does not operate on its own. Mr Reekhaye controls every movement of the da Vinci system from a console beside you in theatre — the technology simply lets him work with greater precision, vision and control through tiny incisions.

3D high-definition vision

A magnified, immersive view of the operating field, in far greater detail than the naked eye.

Articulating instruments

Wristed instruments that bend and rotate beyond the range of the human hand for fine, controlled work.

Tremor filtration

The system gently filters natural hand tremor, translating movement into steady, precise action.

Scaled, precise motion

Larger hand movements are scaled down into tiny, exact movements inside the body.

The surgeon is in full control of the system at all times.

Why robotic surgery

The benefits of a robotic approach

Robotic surgery uses the da Vinci system to translate Mr Reekhaye’s movements into precise, controlled actions through small incisions — combining the accuracy of open surgery with the gentler recovery of a minimally invasive approach.

Explore robotic surgery
  • Enhanced precision through a magnified, high-definition 3D view
  • Smaller incisions than traditional open surgery
  • Less blood loss and a lower need for transfusion
  • Reduced post-operative pain and scarring
  • A shorter hospital stay and a faster return to normal activity
  • Day-case or short-stay surgery for appropriately selected patients

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Answers to some of the questions patients ask most often before a consultation.

Robotic surgery is a form of minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery. Mr Reekhaye operates through a few small incisions using the da Vinci system, which translates his hand movements into precise, controlled actions inside the body. He remains in full control of the instruments throughout.
Not necessarily. Wherever it is safe and appropriate, Mr Reekhaye aims to preserve as much healthy, functioning kidney as possible — an approach called nephron-sparing (partial nephrectomy). Whether this is suitable depends on the size, position and nature of the tumour, which he will discuss with you.
Most patients having minimally invasive surgery go home sooner and recover more quickly than after open surgery, often with a short hospital stay. Your individual recovery depends on the procedure and your general health, and you will be given tailored advice as part of an enhanced-recovery pathway.
Robotic surgery is suitable for many, but not all, kidney conditions. The right approach is decided for each person after reviewing your scans and medical history. Mr Reekhaye will talk you through whether it is appropriate for your situation, along with the alternatives.
You can request a consultation through the booking page, or contact the practice directly. If you have already had scans or investigations, bringing the details to your appointment helps make the most of your time together.
Mr Reekhaye sees patients privately. Arrangements vary by insurer and by hospital, so it is best to confirm the details with the practice when you book. The team can guide you through what to expect.
Mr Reekhaye will review your history and any scans, examine you if needed, explain your diagnosis in plain language and talk through the options together. There is always time for your questions, and you will leave with a clear sense of the next steps.
Yes — you are very welcome to bring a partner, family member or friend. Many people find it helpful to have someone with them to listen, take notes and talk things over afterwards.
