Mr Abhishek Reekhaye

Mr Abhishek Reekhaye is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon who specialises in kidney and upper urinary tract cancer, with a particular focus on advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He practises as a substantive consultant at the Frimley Renal Cancer Centre, one of the UK’s highest-volume kidney cancer units.

He qualified in medicine from Newcastle University in 2011 and completed his higher surgical training in London, where he was ranked second nationally at ST3 selection. He was awarded an MCh in Minimally Invasive Surgery (Urology) with Distinction, gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons — FRCS (Urol) — in 2021, and completed his urology training (CCT) in 2023, joining the GMC Specialist Register in the same year.

Following his specialist training, Mr Reekhaye undertook two competitive post-CCT fellowships in renal cancer surgery — first at King’s College Hospital and then at the Frimley Renal Cancer Centre — developing high-volume expertise in robotic kidney surgery, including the retroperitoneal approach. He then spent sixteen months as a locum consultant at the Royal Free London Specialist Centre for Kidney Cancer, one of Europe’s highest-volume units, managing complex renal tumours.

His clinical practice is centred on robotic kidney and upper tract cancer surgery, including partial and radical nephrectomy and robotic nephroureterectomy for upper tract urothelial cancer. He has particular expertise in the retroperitoneal approach — especially valuable for patients who have had previous abdominal surgery — and in enhanced-recovery pathways that allow day-case or short-stay surgery for suitable patients. He also has a strong interest in upper tract reconstruction, including robotic pyeloplasty.

While robotic kidney and upper tract cancer surgery is his subspecialty, Mr Reekhaye is also an experienced general urologist who is comfortable across all aspects of general and core urology. He sees and treats the common conditions of the urinary tract — including blood in the urine, a raised PSA, benign prostate and urinary symptoms, recurrent urinary infections, kidney stones and scrotal conditions — and welcomes requests for a second opinion.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Reekhaye is actively involved in research and clinical trials, including National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) kidney cancer studies, and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals.
