Specialist in robotic surgery for kidney cancer

Procedure

Robotic Partial Nephrectomy

A nephron-sparing operation that removes a kidney tumour while preserving as much healthy, functioning kidney as possible.

What it is

A partial nephrectomy removes the cancerous part of the kidney while leaving the healthy remainder in place. Performed robotically, it combines precise tumour removal with the gentler recovery of keyhole surgery.

What it treats

It is used for kidney cancer where the tumour is suitable for removal without taking the whole kidney — often smaller or favourably located tumours. Preserving kidney tissue helps protect your long-term kidney function.

What the procedure involves

Through a few small incisions, the tumour is removed with a margin of healthy tissue and the kidney is carefully reconstructed. Where appropriate, Mr Reekhaye may use the retroperitoneal approach, which can be especially helpful for patients who have had previous abdominal surgery.

Recovery & what to expect

Most patients stay in hospital for a short time and follow an enhanced-recovery pathway, returning to normal activities more quickly than after open surgery. You will be given clear aftercare guidance and ongoing follow-up.

Common questions

Will I keep my kidney?
That is the goal of this operation — to remove the tumour while preserving as much healthy, working kidney as possible.
How long is recovery?
Recovery is generally quicker than open surgery. Many patients return to light activity within a few weeks; you will receive personalised guidance.
Is it suitable for me?
Suitability depends on the size and position of the tumour and your general health. Mr Reekhaye will advise at your consultation.
